Almost Ready to Drop the Needle

An album deserves more than a thumbnail. As we prepare to open the listening room, a few words about the feeling we’re building towards.

A VinylStack turntable with a record on its platter
The small moment before the music. A deck from today’s VinylStack.

It began with a question: why could having so much music at our fingertips sometimes make listening feel smaller?

We could find a song in seconds. Discover an artist on the other side of the world. Carry a record collection in a pocket. That part was extraordinary.

But somewhere between the search box and the next recommendation, a little of the occasion had slipped away. The sleeve you studied. The album you chose deliberately. The moment when you put something on and decided to stay.

Music was never meant
to be a list.

A list is useful. It tells you what comes next. It doesn’t tell you why you kept that album, who gave it to you, or what it felt like to hear the opening bars for the first time.

That is the space VinylStack is exploring. A place where your music has artwork, character and somewhere to belong. Where choosing an album feels like choosing an album again.

Streaming gave us access.
We wanted to give it a stage.

Building something
you can almost touch.

The work has been in the details. How a record catches the light. How the tonearm moves as a side plays. How the lead-in, spaces between songs and run-out belong to one continuous groove.

Our Digital Vinyl groove follows the timing of the music. It is a digital listening experience, not an audio waveform cut into a physical master. But the small things still matter: the needle finding its place, the weight of a deck, the colour you choose because it feels like that record.

There have been plenty of adjustments along the way. Perspective that didn’t quite sit right. Motion that needed to be smoother. A cassette that needed to feel more like something you could pick up. We’ll share that work here, including the bits still on the bench.

Your music. A little more presence.

Your Crates give a collection a home. The Deck gives it a stage. Digital Vinyl gives it colour and character. Vinyl, CD and cassette each bring their own way of looking at an album.

And sometimes the music isn’t just for you. A MixDisc is a way to gather songs for someone else: a memory, a message, a little of yourself in the order you chose. The spirit of the mixtape, carried forward.

This is about keeping the ease of digital music and making a little room for the ritual. You don’t have to choose between convenience and feeling.

A note before you listen

You can try our original demo albums without signing in. Full Apple Music playback needs an active Apple Music subscription and authorisation in your browser; otherwise, Apple’s 30-second previews are available where provided. Spotify is coming soon. A VinylStack membership does not include a streaming subscription.

The first pressing.

We’re preparing for launch, and you can already explore the listening room. It is still evolving. Some ideas are ready to try; others, including Studio Mode and future creator tools, are still being built.

That is what this journal is for. New pressings when a colour becomes a collection. Notes from the workbench when a tiny change makes a deck feel more believable. Stories about why an album can mean so much.

There will always be another deck to design, another pressing to explore and another detail that can make music feel a little more alive.

But the first pressing is nearly ready.

The listening room is almost ready.
Bring your music.

We’ll see you when the needle drops.
