Playground measurements

Your local recordings stay in your browser. Playground measurements contain fixed interaction names, counts, broad import-size/duration categories, technical outcomes and approximate timings, plus browser family/major version, operating-system family and device category. They do not contain recordings, file/folder names, track or artist tags, artwork, waveforms or exact recording durations.

A new random page-session reference groups these events. We do not save account IDs, email addresses, full browser strings or IP addresses in this telemetry dataset, and do not use it to recognise returning people or connect visits. Ordinary hosting/security logs are separate and may contain connection details such as IP addresses. Public Playground visits also contribute to website traffic measurements, which use a separate browser reference and a 90-day retention period. The same measurement preference applies to both datasets.

Telemetry is retained in a rolling 30-day reporting window and routinely deleted in bounded cleanup batches. Browser Do Not Track / Global Privacy Control and the website measurement opt-out are respected. Use the Playground’s “What we measure & why” panel or the website traffic preference below to turn it off; playback does not depend on measurements. No external analytics provider receives these events.

Privacy Policy (VinylStack)

Effective date: 15 February 2026

VinylStack ("VinylStack", "we", "us") operates the website and app at VinylStack.org (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1) Summary

  • Default private: Your content is private by default.
  • Public sharing is optional: You can choose to make your stack public, but only by actively changing the default private setting.
  • Minimal personal data: We store only your email address as personal information to create and manage your account.
  • No selling/sharing: We do not sell your data and do not share your personal information with third parties for marketing or advertising.
  • Delete anytime: You can delete your account and all associated content at any time.

2) Information We Collect

a) Account information

Email address (required) - used to create your account, sign you in, and communicate essential service messages (e.g., account and security notices).

b) Content you create

Records you add to your stack (e.g., releases, notes, tags, favorites, collections).

Privacy default: This content is private by default.

Website traffic measurements

We use first-party traffic measurements to understand which parts of VinylStack people visit, how much active time they spend there, and which promotions bring them here. We record page categories, referring domains, broad device types, approximate country and timing. If you follow a campaign link, we record its public source, medium and campaign labels. We do not include account IDs, IP addresses, full browser strings, other URL queries, search terms, private gift links or recordings in this traffic dataset.

Country is estimated from the connection's IP address using a database on our own server. We keep only the country code; we do not save the IP address in traffic measurements or send it to a geolocation service. VPNs and mobile networks may give a different country from your actual location. IP Geolocation by DB-IP, using its Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 Lite database.

A random browser reference in local storage lets us estimate first-time and returning visits. It expires after 90 days and is stored on our server only as a keyed hash. It is not linked to your account. Clearing browser storage, using private browsing or switching devices can count as a new visitor. A separate random session reference groups page visits until 30 minutes without activity. Active time is an estimate: background tabs and time beyond 60 seconds without interaction are excluded.

We separately count requests from browsers that identify themselves as crawlers, link previews or automated tools, and flag browser automation signals. These are estimates, not proof that a visitor is human or a bot. Crawler counts contain only the hour, page category, claimed bot family and request count. Traffic records are removed after 90 days during normal site activity.

We respect browser Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals. You can also turn off these measurements for this browser below. Turning them off removes the saved traffic references. Your choice is saved on this device and does not affect playback or your account. Server security logs are separate from these traffic measurements.

c) Basic technical data (for security and reliability)

To operate securely and troubleshoot issues, we may automatically receive basic technical data such as:

  • IP address (typically in server logs), browser/device type, timestamps, and app/site activity related to authentication and usage.

We use this only for security, fraud prevention, and Service reliability.

If you truly do not store server logs at all, you can remove this section - but most sites/apps do have minimal logs.

3) How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service (e.g., account creation, login, saving your stack).
  • Keep the Service secure (e.g., prevent abuse, debug issues).
  • Communicate with you about essential Service updates (account/security notices).

We do not use your data for targeted advertising.

4) Public vs. Private Content

Default private

Your stack and content are private by default.

Making your stack public

If you choose to share your stack publicly, it will be visible to others according to the sharing option you enable (for example, a public profile or public stack page). You can switch back to private at any time in your settings. Changes may take a short time to update everywhere.

5) Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell your personal information.

We do not share your personal information with third parties for marketing or advertising.

Service Providers (if applicable): If VinylStack uses essential vendors (e.g., hosting, database, email delivery) to operate the Service, they only process data on our behalf and under our instructions, and only to provide the Service.

If you want to be extra strict with your statement ("no third party at all"), tell me what hosting/email provider you use and I will word this accurately without overpromising.

6) Data Retention

We keep your information only as long as needed to provide the Service:

  • Account + content: retained until you delete it or delete your account.
  • Technical/security logs (if used): retained for a limited period for security and troubleshooting, then deleted or anonymized.

7) Account Deletion and Your Choices

You can:

  • Keep your content private (default).
  • Make your stack public by changing your settings.
  • Delete your account at any time, which deletes your email address, your stack/content you created, and other data associated with your account, subject to limited retention required for security, legal compliance, or system integrity.

How to delete: In the app/website, go to Settings -> Delete Account (or contact us at the email below if you cannot access your account).

8) Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data.

9) International Users

If you access VinylStack from outside the country where our servers are located, your information may be processed there. We apply this Privacy Policy wherever we process your data.

10) Children's Privacy

VinylStack is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

11) Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and may provide additional notice within the Service.
