VINYLSTACK

Data Sources, Caching & Attribution (VinylStack)

Effective date: 17 February 2026

VinylStack helps you catalog and enjoy your record collection. When you scan a barcode or search, VinylStack may fetch release metadata from third-party services to populate details like artist, title, artwork, and tracklists.

Third-party sources we use

  • Discogs - release metadata and Discogs links.
  • Apple Music - Apple Music links and matching metadata where available.

What we store (your VinylStack data)

We store only what we need to run your account and your collection:

  • Your email address (for account access).
  • Your VinylStack content (your stacks, items you add, tags, notes, favourites, and privacy settings).
  • Barcodes you scan (for example, UPC/EAN) to help identify releases and speed up matching.
  • Third-party identifiers (for example, Discogs release IDs and Apple Music album/track IDs) so we can re-fetch metadata when needed.

What we cache (third-party metadata) and for how long

To keep VinylStack fast and reduce repeated lookups, we temporarily cache certain metadata retrieved from Discogs and Apple Music (for example: artist, title, year, artwork URL, tracklist, and genres/styles).

We refresh or re-fetch cached metadata on demand when it becomes stale:

  • Discogs metadata cache: refreshed at least every 6 hours.
  • Apple Music metadata cache: refreshed at least every 24 hours.

Payload minimisation and purge policy

VinylStack does not intentionally store full raw third-party API responses long-term. Where cached metadata or payload fragments exist for performance or reliability, we follow a data hygiene policy:

  • Cached payload data is purged after 30 days as part of an automated nightly cleanup.

Private by default

Your collection is private by default. You can choose to share a stack publicly, but only by explicitly changing the default private setting.

Attribution

Where Discogs data is displayed, we provide attribution ("Data provided by Discogs") and link back to the relevant Discogs page.

Delete your data

You can delete your account at any time. This deletes your VinylStack content and associated stored identifiers from VinylStack.
