MAKE IT YOURS

Your choice stays in this Playground session.

Your music stays here. What we measure & why.

We measure which controls get used, import and playback outcomes, approximate timings and browser/device categories to improve the Playground. We do not send your recordings, filenames, folders, music tags or artwork. For these playback measurements, a fresh reference groups activity within this page visit; it is not linked to your account or reused to recognise you on another visit.

Playback measurements stay with VinylStack in a rolling 30-day reporting window, with routine deletion of older records. They are optional: every feature works when they are off. Browser privacy signals and the site measurement preference are respected.

Public Playground visits also count towards website traffic measurements, including campaign sources and active time. A separate random browser reference helps count returning visits for up to 90 days and is not linked to your account. The same measurement preference applies to both.

A NEW HOME FOR OLD FAVOURITES

Your files. A sleeve. A little ceremony.

The Playground is a free virtual record player for your browser. Start with one of our original records, or bring the MP3, M4A and WAV recordings you have permission to play. Give them a sleeve, place the record on the deck and drop the needle.

Move the cartridge to find another moment. Choose a deck and vinyl colour. Try a little surface character or adjust the equaliser. Your music, with room to play.

Why VinylStack From the Cutting Room

A few things before you spin.

Do I need an account or Apple Music?

No. The Playground is free to use without an account or a music subscription. Choose one of our original demo records or open your own supported audio files.

Can I bring a whole album?

Yes. Choose recordings or an album folder. Different folders become separate albums. Tracks stay whole, with up to 20 minutes on each side; longer albums continue onto another volume. Each session allows up to 200 MB of audio, 100 tracks and 24 records. A single track must fit within 20 minutes.

Which audio files can I play?

MP3, M4A and WAV are supported when your browser can decode the recording inside. Protected subscription downloads and DRM-protected files cannot be opened here. The Playground reads available titles and embedded artwork, or makes a sleeve when artwork is missing.

Does my music leave my device?

Your imported audio, filenames, music tags and artwork stay in this browser session. They are not uploaded or saved to a VinylStack account, and disappear from the Playground when you reload or close the page. This is a listening experience, not a downloadable file conversion.

Optional usage measurements help us spot playback problems and understand which controls get used. Read what we measure or switch measurements off.

Can I use touch or ordinary playback controls?

Yes. On a supported phone or tablet, tap a record to place it, then press and move the cartridge. Traditional Controls provides playback buttons and a position slider if you prefer them. The controls also support keyboard use.

What does scratching the record do?

Hold and turn the grooves to move through the sound in either direction. Scrubbing is available for supported recordings up to 5 minutes and 64 MB. Longer recordings still support cartridge positioning and normal playback.

Silent Pressings

Waiting for the grooves

Music is the reason
the record has value.

The artists, writers and people behind these songs brought something into our lives.

If VinylStack brings that music onto a physical record, we want the necessary permissions and payments to be part of the process. We want the people who made the music to participate in the value it creates.

We want to take responsibility for our part in that — rather than leave it to the person giving or receiving the record.

That’s the thinking behind Silent Pressings.

What is a Silent Pressing?

A Silent Pressing is the physical companion to your Digital Vinyl: a real vinyl blank, complete with its sleeve and inserts, connected by its unique serial number and QR code.

The physical vinyl is supplied without music grooves. Its Digital Vinyl is ready to explore and hear here, through the listening options available to you.

Why is my physical record silent?

For commercially released music, our aim is to have the necessary permissions and payment arrangements in place before adding grooves. The ability to cut a record is only part of the story. The people whose music makes it worth owning matter too.

Why can I listen here, but not cut the stream onto vinyl?

Full playback here uses your own Apple Music subscription and authorisation. Available previews are supplied by Apple Music. That listening access does not give VinylStack permission to manufacture a physical copy, and we do not use the stream as a cutting master.

Apple’s listening terms

What permissions would be needed?

The recording and the underlying music and lyrics can have different rights holders. A physical release may need permissions for both, as well as any artwork or other material used. The requirements depend on the music, the proposed use and the countries involved.

Our aim is to establish the appropriate licensing and payment arrangements for the particular programme before offering grooves. This describes VinylStack’s approach; it doesn’t confirm clearance for this record.

What if I created or own the music?

Music you control may offer a different route. We would still need to establish that the necessary rights cover the recording, composition, contributions, samples and accompanying artwork. Creating or uploading a track alone doesn’t settle every permission.

Could the same numbered blank receive its grooves later?

That’s the ambition: if permissions, suitable audio and the physical condition of the blank allow, it could return to VinylStack to be cut, checked and sent home. We haven’t established that service yet. We would explain eligibility, any costs and the process before you decide.

Will it definitely happen?

No. Permissions may never become available for some or all recordings. A Silent Pressing should be understood as a silent physical object, with a linked Digital Vinyl experience, rather than a promise of a playable physical record later.

What does “keep me informed” mean?

You’re asking us to email you if VinylStack can offer a route to add grooves for this record’s current programme. It is an expression of interest — no purchase, no reservation and no guarantee. It doesn’t register ownership of a physical blank or join a general marketing list.

We’ll ask you to confirm your email address. You can withdraw and delete this request using the link in that email.

The music matters. So do the people who made it.
